Welcome NanoBusiness Talent!

The NanoBusiness Alliance aims to ensure the future vitality of domestic scientists and entrepreneurs by engaging advanced high school students in cutting-edge technology development.  TALENT fellows will participate in a 1-week nanotechnology boot camp at Argonne National Laboratory followed by a paid 8-week internship with emerging technology companies in Chicagoland.  This unique program will not only give students hands-on experience with the research techniques and instruments scientists use in nanotechnology, but they will also learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship by interacting with scientists that have transformed their research into a company.

Argonne National Laboratory Boot Camp
This introduction to nanotechnology will include a tour of the Advanced Photon Source (APS), demonstrations of e-beam lithography, nano-imprint patterning, atomic force microscopy, scanning probe tunneling, surface plasmon resonance, peptide synthesis and lectures on safety and health issues.

Internship program
Sample projects may address novel drug delivery vehicles that can accurately target specific cancer cells, diagnostic systems that can accurately diagnose diseases that are undetectable with current methods, nanoscale inscription devices that can mark pills and prevent the illegal sale of pharmaceuticals, stem cell research, and methods for sorting nanotubes for use in the electronics industry.

Lessons and social events
Periodically throughout the internship, the TALENT fellows will participate in social events as well as lectures on technology transfer, backpack to briefcase basics, and public speaking skills.
